Early Quarterly Update

I don't normally write in Xanga, but since friends read it I figured I might as well do some sort of updating.

February 17th - Happy Lunar New Year!!  What a great excuse to be with family and eat all weekend!

February 14-16th – So people call it a Hallmark holiday, but I like Hallmark.  The cards usually express what I’m feeling more eloquently than I can.

I have to give Thanh props for making Valentine's Day sweet and special.  We had already planned on going out for dinner on Friday instead of Wednesday cause of our schedules/work.  But we got to together for a simple dinner, pizza and salad, on Wednesday night...it's was nice just spending time together.    He pulled out a CD.  He made a mix...I don't remember ever getting a mix made just for me!  Then he pulled out a little light blue bag with a little box, a little pouch, and inside a heart necklace.  omg...I totally wasn't expecting it.  What a super sweet gift.

On Thursday, a Hallmark box arrived for me at my office...roses!  I received many comments from my co-workers.  "Those are beautiful." "You've got a keeper." "You got roses...you stink! (said in jest)"  It also sparked conversations about SOs.

All this before Friday night, when we enjoyed a nice dinner at an Italian restaurant he picked (since he knows Italian is my favorite).

hearts of romaine marinated white anchovies, sicilian olive puree & garlic-anchovy dressing

pappardelle braised rabbit ragu, castelveltrano olives & black pepper

diver scallops chestnut puree, savoy cabbage & red wine sauce

roasted chicken black olive polenta, smashed grapes & almonds

glass of chardonnay and sauvignon blanc

January 5th - attended my first NBA basketball game: Wizards vs Clippers.  Thanh was nice enough to explain everything to me.

January 2nd - return from visiting family in Taiwan.  It was the first time I've spent New Year's Eve in a different country...it was 1 PM on Sunday in the US when we celebrated in Taiwan.  Feel free to view the photos from the trip below.  It was by far the most eye-opening trip to Taiwan that I've ever taken....I didn't realize the country was so beautiful.

January 1st - my promotion to a Clinical Research Associate is effective.  If you're wondering what I do, follow the wikipedia link below.

Crying in Front of a Co-worker

I don't like crying and I rarely do it, but today I did.

It started with a trip to Rockland's BBQ for lunch.  I wanted to add a little kick to my sandwich, so I grabbed a bottle of hot sauce with a cute chili pepper on the label.  One dab of sauce and one bite later, my mouth feels a little heat then an intense burning sensation that slowly crawls down my throat.  Things get blurry so I grab a napkin to wipe away tears.  I walk to the counter to get a cup for water and the guy asks me which sauce I picked up.  I said, "Dave's."  He responds, "You mean the Insanity Sauce.  That's the hottest one we have here.  Here's a cup."  I think, "Great.  I'm an idiot."   Two 16-ounce cups of water and three napkins later, the burning sensation and tearing is under control.  I apologize to my coworker for holding up lunch.  My coworker teases me that I didn't read the fine print "The hottest sauce in the universe."

p.s.- four hours after lunch my throat still hurt

Labor Day Weekend...

On Saturday, some friends decided to take a trip to Virginia Beach to try kayaking with dolphins.  Alas, the rain from Tropical Storm Ernesto made the waters too rough for beginner kayakers so we opted for flatwater kayaking at an inlet.  The day was gorgeous...sunny and temps in the low 80's.  Here's the group and our instructor...

New Musical Fixation

Whenever I really like a song, I play it over and over again till I'm absolutely sick of it and cringe when I hear.  My new fixation is on the songs "What do you do with a B.A. in English?/ It Sucks to be Me" and "Everyone's a Little Racist" from the musical Avenue Q.  The "It Sucks to be Me" song is quite catchy and I was listening to it at work.  It got stuck in my head and I noticed I was walking around singing it under my breath; hopefully, I didn't sing loud enough for people to hear me.

I haven't listened to all the songs yet, but Purpose, There's a Fine, Fine Line, and The Money Song are good too.  The lyrics are clever and pretty dead-on....I appreciate it when a person, song, whatever will say what I won't.  Now I have to make my way to NYC to see it.
